Day 6 of the month of Ramadan

Eggplant Dip Recipe

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds eggplant (more or less)
- 3 tablespoons tahini (sesame paste)
- 3 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cloves garlic, minced or pressed

optional garnishes: minced parsley, tomato, paprika
Directions
  • Grill the eggplant over direct heat, after pricking in several places with a fork, until it is blackened and collapsed. This will take from 30 - 45 minutes, depending on the size of the eggplant and how hot the grill is.
  • Scrape the soft flesh from the skin (leaving a few bits of blackened skin will add to the nice smokey flavor) and purèe in a food processor with the rest of the ingredients.
  • Garnish as desired. Serve with wedges of pita bread, crackers, etc.
  • TIP: Eggplants can also be oven-roasted at 400°F  for 30 - 45 minutes, or until soft and collapsed.

The point of the video is to make people more conscious of these silly actions so they will think twice before they do it during the next Ramadan. Reminding myself before anyone else, Ramadan is a blessing so let's try not to take it for granted but rather take advantage of it by increasing our Iman (faith) so we can become better Muslims, even after Ramadan is over InshAllah.

Hadith

Narrated 'Aisha: The people used to fast on 'Ashura (the tenth day of the month of Muharram) before the fasting of ramadan was made obligatory. And on that day the Ka'ba used to be covered with a cover. When Allah made the fasting of the month of ramadan compulsory, Allah's Apostle said, "Whoever wishes to fast (on the day of 'Ashura') may do so; and whoever wishes to leave it can do so."  (Book #26, Hadith #662)
